The great stuff regular foam had turned to dust while the pond foam (black) still held its shape. I have used the pond foam on two new builds and the black helps cover up mistakes. Just my two cents from a novice. I use the stuff from home depot and lowes.

Turns dark brown in UV and will degrade over say 3-5 years, but slowly. In theory the foam doing the real work would be protected from UV by the rocks. Great Stuff "Pond & Stone" is the same as "Gaps & Cracks" except it is black.
